Zumba Fitness has developed a special branch of the program called ‘Zumba Gold’, which is designed specifically for seniors, beginners or others needing modifications in their exercise routine. Zumba Gold builds cardiovascular health by challenging the heart and working the muscles of the hips, legs and arms with fun dance moves.
Zumba Gold has a ‘ Zumba Chair’ version, in which the entire class is done whilst seated. This is ideal for those who find difficulty in standing for extended periods of time, those with limited mobility and those who require wheelchair assistance. This specialty program is tailored specifically for an aged care community, particularly in the 90+ age bracket. The movements are structured to strengthen the bones and joints, which help restore or improve range of motion. That, in turn, will help with posture, which can help make everyday activities easier to do.
Participants are encouraged to join in at their own level – meaning at their own level of comfort. Some may choose to just sit and listen to the music – but even smiling works the muscles around the face! This has been a huge hit in Aged Cared facilities all over Melbourne.
Lucy is qualified and experienced in teaching Zumba Gold for Aged care venues, and currently teaches at many Aged Care/Special needs facilities across Melbourne. This has left her with extensive hands on experience and knowledge with varying age groups, including a high level of sensitivity and people skills to teach different demographics in mobility and health. She has been teaching the Zumba Chair program for 4 years, and it is her bubbly and warm energy that makes her such a hit with her residents.
